make-ring.py should allow building on unsupported GNU/Linux distributions

I believe there should be an option to work one's way around to compile Ring on an unsupported GNU/Linux distribution (of course, at one's own expense). Currently "make-ring.py" spits out

Distribution 'XXX' not supported.

error and quits. I would like to package Ring for Slackware and with the current incarnation of "make-ring.py", I do not have a clue about how to do it. I would appreciate any solution.
